Howard Goodall’s Big Bang Episode 4 – “The Invention of the Piano”
Goodall travels to Italy and England as he discusses the invention of the piano at the end of the 17th century by Bartolomeo Cristofori. Visiting the Museo degli Strumenti Musicali on Rome, which houses one of Cristofori’s original pianos. Goodall surveys the changes wrought by this invention, highlighting the immense contributions of Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn.
